The world of Redemption has been in turmoil for as long as anyone can remember. War is the norm for the citizens of this great planet, and the day when peace crests the horizon is nothing more than a distant dream, the subject of heavyhearted "what-ifs" and "could you imagines" The people living near the borders of the six kingdoms sharing the continent live in perpetual fear, never knowing when the next raid or invasion may come or if they will still be alive in their beds the next morning. Those in the city are more fortunate, protected by capital guards and thick, stone walls. However, it is only a matter of time until the fighting escalates, until those pulling the strings grow a little bolder.
The land is divided into six kingdoms: Alderoth, Corinthia, Egandir, Cyprantea, Geran, and Vendalith. Corinthia and Vendalith used to be part of a larger territory known as Ionetia hundreds of years ago, a kingdom ruled by Queen Aldora, a champion of justice. However, her closest advisor and the general of her forces, a man called Arrathien but known only as Shadowmancer to most, betrayed her. He gave Geran, Aldora's greatest enemy, a detailed map of Ionetia's capital city as well as the floor plans to the Queen's Palace. Arrathien fled in the dead of night, taking his army of loyal Tiste Andii warriors with him.
Aldora would have been defeated that very night if another advisor hadn't heard of Arrathien's plan and tipped her off. Having had time to muster her remaining forces, she defended the capital and retained her territory. Arrathien, however, began his own string of conquests, taking land from surrounding countries in order to build his own kingdom. He came to rule Vendalith and Aldora was left in Ionetia, renamed Corinthia after many of its outlying cities had been claimed by Arrathien. The two remain bitter enemies, and tension is beginning to come to a boil now that the other four kingdoms are gaining power and influence in the struggle for domination.
In a world where the gentlest breeze could tip the scales in anyone's favor, where will you place your bet? Will you side with Queen Aldora, King Arrathien, or perhaps one of the underdogs? Only one thing is certain: there will be bloodshed, and it will be your own.
