Description:
A thousand years ago, the Angel Raziel mixed his blood with the blood of men and created the race of the Nephilim. Human-angel hybrids, they walk among us, unseen but ever-present, our invisible protectors.

They call themselves Shadowhunters.

The Shadowhunters obey the laws set down in the Gray Book, given to them by the angel: their mandate is to protect our world from the interdimensional parasites they call demons, who travel from world to world, razing and destroying everything in their path. Theirs is also the task of keeping the peace among the warring Downworlders: the human-demon crossbreeds we know as warlocks, vampires, werewolves, and faeries.

When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder -- much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Clary knows she should call the police, but it's hard to explain a murder when the body disappears into thin air and the murderers are invisible to everyone but Clary. Equally startled by her ability to see them, the murderers explain themselves as Shadowhunters: a secret tribe of warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. Within twenty-four hours, Clary's mother disappears and Clary herself is almost killed by a grotesque demon. But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know....

Clary Fray just wishes that her life would go back to normal. But what's normal when you're a demon-slaying Shadowhunter, your mother is in a magically induced coma, and you can suddenly see Downworlders like werewolves, vampires, and faeries? If Clary left the world of the Shadowhunters behind, it would mean more time with her best friend, Simon, who's becoming more than a friend. But the Shadowhunting world isn't ready to let her go -- especially her handsome, infuriating, newfound brother, Jace. And Clary's only chance to help her mother is to track down rogue Shadowhunter Valentine, who is probably insane, certainly evil -- and also her father. To complicate matters, someone in New York City is murdering Downworlder children. Is Valentine behind the killings -- and if he is, what is he trying to do? When the second of the Mortal Instruments, the Soul-Sword, is stolen, the terrifying Inquisitor arrives to investigate and zooms right in on Jace. How can Clary stop Valentine if Jace is willing to betray everything he believes in to help their father?

“I know how to wake your mother up.” Ever since her mother succumbed to an enchanted sleeping sickness with no apparent cure, Clary Fray has longed to hear these words — but her happiness is dashed when she learns that the cure exists only in Idris, the Shadowhunters’ home country, where she is forbidden to go. As the Council of the Shadowhunters prepare for war with Valentine and his massive demon army, Jace and the Lightwoods travel to the City of Glass, Idris’ capital, taking newly-made vampire Simon with them — but leaving Clary behind in New York. Clary has to use all her ingenuity and newfound magical skills to get herself to the Glass City on her own, a dangerous action that makes her a hunted enemy of the Clave. The City of Glass is like nowhere else Clary has ever been — its twisting streets hide a myriad of secrets, and the secretive Clave relies on the ancient glass “demon towers” to keep the city safe from attack. As Jace and the Lightwoods struggle to convince the Clave that Valentine represents a threat the like of which they’ve never dealt with before, and Simon is thrown in prison as an enemy of the state, Clary, with help of her newfound friend Sebastian, must uncover the truth about her family’s past to save not just her mother but also Jace, the boy she loves but can never have. When Valentine attacks the city and destroys the demon towers, Clary and her allies are all that stand between him and the total annihilation of all Shadowhunters. Love is a mortal sin and the past tangles inextricably with the present as Clary and Jace face down Valentine in the final installment of the Mortal Instruments.

CITY OF FALLEN ANGELS
Love, blood, betrayal and revenge — the stakes are higher than ever in City of Fallen Angels. Simon Lewis is having some trouble adjusting to his new life as a vampire, especially now that he hardly sees his best friend Clary, who is caught up in training to be a Shadowhunter—and spending time with her new boyfriend Jace. Not to mention that Simon doesn't quite know how to handle the pressure of not-quite-dating two girls at once. What's a daylight-loving vampire to do? Simon decides he needs a break and heads out of the city—only to discover that sinister events are following him. Realizing that the war they thought they'd won might not yet be over, Simon has to call on his Shadowhunter friends to save the day — if they can put their own splintering relationships on hold long enough to rise to the challenge.

CITY OF BONES
Now, a book series being optioned doesn’t mean a film is being made right now or is definitely going to be made at all — it means that the studio or production company in question is developing the books as a film project — right now they’ve nailed down financing and a screenwriter (I don’t know who that is yet) and are working towards the next stages in the development project. It is, however, an important step in the movie-making process, so I feel like it’s okay to be excited about it.

This is a film production company set up by former founders and co-presidents of New Line Bob Shaye and Michael Lynne, who oversaw the production of the Lord of the Rings movies — probably my favorite fantasy movies of all time. They're very dedicated to fantasy and they understand it, and I definitely trust them with the story of the Mortal Instruments.
Clary/Clarissa Fray
Clarissa "Clary" Fray/Morgenstern is the daughter of Jocelyn Fray and Valentine Morgenstern. She can create Runes that are much stronger than normal runes and even create new ones. She can bear more marks than most shadowhunters. Clary is known to be very stubborn. Before she meets Jace she has only three people she truly loves, Simon, Luke, and her mother. Clary is prone to being very jealous of other girls who are beautiful, because she does not believe she is beautiful herself. Clary thinks her height and small chest make her "cute", not "beautiful. This is why she has very few female friends. In fact, other then Simon, Clary doesn't seem to have any real friends at all.

Jace Wayland
The story of Jace's life is one of the most complex tales in the series. He was raised by the villainous Valentine Morgenstern, whom he believed to be his father when in actuality, he was the son of Stephen and Celine Herondale. The archetypal Byronic hero, Jace is sarcastic, cynical, and witty but also vain, arrogant, and full of angst. Jace has fine, curly blond hair and gold eyes. He has a slim, muscular build. Jace possesses strength, speed, durability, and leaping ability that surpasses that of other Shadowhunters. This is due to being infused with the angel Ithuriel's blood as a fetus. It is stated in the series that Jace posesses the "Angel's own gift" but it is never made clear exactly what this means.

Simon Lewis
Simon Lewis is Clary Fray's best and only friend. Simon is in love with Clary, but Clary cannot seem to return his affections, especially after they meet Jace Wayland. They date shortly, but it doesn't seem to last. Clary loves him more like a brother. It is then he is bitten and turned into a vampire. At first, Simon cannot go out in sunlight (it burns) and fools his family into thinking he has the flu. When Simon is killed by Valentine Morgenstern, Jace finds his body. Jace makes Simon drink his blood, although he later regrets it. Simon became immune to the sun due to his drinking of Jace's Angel-spiked blood, and is called a Daylighter.

Alec Lightood
Jace Wayland is his adoptive brother, whom he believes he is in love with. Alec realizes later that he will never be with Jace, and that he truly loves Magnus Bane. Alec is very much the opposite of his sister in the sense that he is self conscious and very serious. Alec is very protective of his family and assumes the most responsibility as the oldest of his siblings. Him and Jace are parabatai, meaning that they are warriors who fight together and are closer than brothers.
Th3rd World Publishing will be adapting the The Mortal Instruments series as a series of comic books! While the release dates have yet to be finalized we will update you whenever we have newer information.
The year is 1878. A killer stalks the dark streets of London, flaying his victims alive and removing their skin, leaving behind the stench of demonic witchcraft wherever he strikes. Seeking his identity, the Shadowhunters of the London Insitute find one clue: a membership badge for a secret organization called The Pandemonium Club. Some of London’s richest and most successful men are members. But which of them is the killer, and what is his ultimate goal? Meanwhile, sixteen-year-old Tessa Gray’s search for her missing brother — once a member of the Pandemonium Club — leads her into Victorian-era London's dangerous supernatural underworld, where vampires stalk the gaslit streets of London, werewolves slink in the shadowy lanes of Whitechapel, and warlocks hold masquerade balls for demons and Downworlders in opium-smoke-filled ballrooms. When Tessa discovers that she herself is a Downworlder, she must learn to trust her natural enemies, the demon-killing Shadowhunters, if she ever wants to learn to control her powers and find her brother. Torn between beautiful Will, a Shadowhunter hiding his true nature, and the devoted Jem, whose own deadly secret is slowly destroying him, Tessa must draw on all her strength to save her brother and keep herself alive in this deadly new world.

THE CLOCKWORK PRINCESS - Due Date: September 2011

THE CLOCKWORK PRINCE - Due Date: September 2012
Tessa/Theresa Gray
Tessa has spent the first sixteen years of her life being overprotected by her aunt after the death of her parents in a carriage accident. She lives almost all her life in books, dreaming of having the kind of adventures the heroines she reads about do—until she is forced to travel from New York to London when her brother Nathaniel goes missing and only a pair of mysterious—and sinister—women called the Dark Sisters seem to know where he might have gone. The Shadowhunters of the London Institute may be Tessa's only hope of finding Nate, but their mysterious world of demons and Downworlders holds many dangers for her—especially when she realizes she might be more a part of it than she'd thought.

Will/William Herondale
Seventeen-year-old Will is the sort of young man nice Victorian girls were warned against. He drinks, gambles, and enjoys the company of ladies of questionable virtue—at least, as much as he enjoys anything. Will hates everyone and everything, with the possible exception of Jem, and even that's in some doubt. Charlotte despairs of keeping him alive past the age of nineteen. When he finds himself oddly drawn to Tessa, his friends begin to hope that the Downworlder girl will prove Will's unlikely salvation—but as Tessa grows closer to the bleak secret that makes his life a prison, danger threatens to destroy them both if she ever finds out the truth.

Jem/James Carstairs
Brought up in the Institute in Shanghai, Jem's parents were killed by a demon who allowed Jem to live—but with a terrible price to be paid. Frail and silver-haired, Jem seems an unlikely demon-killer, but his skills and swift intelligence make him a formidable foe. He finds a kindred spirit in Tessa as both of them feel they are torn between two worlds, neither belonging completely to one or to the other. As Jem's affection for her grows, will Will have to hurt the only person in his life he's ever seemed to care about?

Jessie/Jessamine Lovelace
Jessamine's parents, like Will's were Shadowhunters who left the Clave. Their deaths in a fire orphaned her, leaving her to be brought up in the Institute by Charlotte and Henry. Jessamine hates everything about being a Shadowhunter, from the training to the danger to the existence of demons, which she seems "smelly and disgusting" Armed with a razor-edged parasol and an equally sharp tongue, Jessamine can be dangerous if she wants to be—to herself as much as to the supernatural creatures she's sometimes forced to encounter.

Charlotte Branwell
Twenty-two year-old Charlotte runs the entire Institute with a capable hand. Kind and loving, she does her best to care for the orphaned Shadowhunters who live under her roof while hiding her loneliness from the absent-minded husband she loves. It seems as if there's nothing Charlotte can't manage—until Tessa's search for her missing brother begins to uncover a web of corruption and deceit in London's Downworld that threatens to tear London's Conclave of Shadowhunters apart.

Henry Branwell
Absent-minded and brilliant, Henry spends his waking hours in the crypt of the Institute, inventing fabulous machines and weapons out of cogs cams and gears. Unfortunately just as many of Henry's inventions don't work as the ones that do, and Henry is as likely to set himself on fire as he is to invent something new and amazing. When Tessa finds herself followed by a silent band of assassins who turn out to be automata—human beings made from clockwork parts—it is Henry who must decipher how they work in order to find the demonic mechanical genius at the heart of the most evil plan London's supernatural world has ever seen.
