Jennifer-Lynn is an active member of vf, but also a huge part of the vf design team. She helped with creating the last April Fools joke from Jet, and has now set her mind to rebuilding vflayouts.com (a long requested update by many vf members). When she is not on vf or designing she is busy with college and being a gamer girl.
What got you into graphic design and do you do any other art besides designing?
I've always been into art. Between drawing to painting to designing jewelry or stained glass. I love doing whatever I can that helps feed my creative side. I love photography too. I don't go anywhere without my camera. When I was in middle school I wanted something different from the rest of the art students. So one of my teachers gave me a book on graphic design and photoshop. After that I was hooked. I loved everything about making new things in photoshop. I kept going with the classes through high school and now I'm getting my major in Graphic Design. It's just what I love to do.
You are a graphic design student in a community college. What made you want to go to college for graphic design and do you think college is helpful in such an area when a lot of the information can be self taught through the internet?
I want to make it my career. I do freelance projects now just for the extra cash until I can get a real job with it since no one is willing to hire fulltime unless you have a degree. I honestly think I've learned more about graphic design being self taught then through the college courses. Sure the professors can give you tips and little tricks but to really get designing; its best to just learn for yourself. I've also learned a lot more from other designers on and off of VF than a professor has ever taught me.
What do you think it takes to be a Vampirefreaks Designer and do you have any advice for other designers wanting to be on the VF Design Team?
You have to be talented, know what you're doing. And honestly I don't think you can be a good designer unless you're willing to step outside of the box. You need to push your limits and try new things. The same things all the time get boring. Switch it up. Do different types of design setups. Be willing to learn. And don't ever be afraid to ask for help.
You are spearheading the vflayouts.com redesign. What can we expect to see changed, and what new things are in store for the site?
There is going to be a new setup to the site. Not complete major changes to the point its hard to navigate, no. I understand major changes can be difficult to adjust to. But this will be a good change. It will be a clean sleek design but with extra details to make things pop. We will also be having more premade things added to the site. As well as possibly some new features to add to your vf profiles.
What would you consider your greatest design to date and why?
God, that's hard honestly. I'm really proud of all of my work. Even the few resources that I've made. I recently just finished Adora's (drklvr) new layout, its so simple yet I love how it turned out. But I favorite of all my designs so far is a tie between StreetWalker Header and my Guttermouth Layout.
You are a gamer girl, so what are your top 5 video games and why those?
I am a Final Fantasy fangirl. Its crazy. I love RPGs. But those not the only games I play. I will play anything. My favorite game ever is Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core. Second favorite is Final Fantasy VIII. Third is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Fourth, give me Mario Cart and I'll play it all day long. No joke. Fifth Tomb Raider: Underworld.
You are single and bisexual, what would you consider your ideal boy or girl to date?
You have to be able to make me laugh. Seriously, if you can make me laugh it will get you major points. I'm not one that is about looks really. Sure I don't mind someone being hot, hell that's just a plus. But I want you to have a good personality. I want someone interesting and exciting to be around. I'm not your typical girl either. I'd rather go hang out at the park or some place quiet then have a ton of money spent on me in some restaurant. Unless you're up for a horror film. If you love horror movies as much as me, I'll love you forever.
What made you join vampirefreaks.com in the first place?
My sister actually had me join ages ago. She was doing graphics for her cult and told me it would be good practice for me to do the same. I've left a few times. Mainly when I was in high school and I didn't have the time to be on. But I've been back for over a year now and I don't plan to leave anytime soon.
What cults are you in and what do you like about each cult?
I just started up my design cult again Sugarskull_Designs. I am also designing for Cynosure, Orion and the VfDesignTeam of course. I've also made home for myself in XIII and Socialite. Design cults are the main thing I enjoy. Being part of XIII is awesome. Its a small cult community and unlike large cults you actually get to know the people you share a cult with. Socialite is fun. It feeds my need to be a post whore. And I'm able to be a part of a lovely group of girls that are like me.
What would you consider the best part of vampirefreaks.com?
The cults. Well and the people of course. Though there are some people that are just here for trolling and I can live without them; I have met some amazing people on this site. The cults are what keep me coming back mainly. I'm home almost 24/7 with my family so I have to do something other than clean and watch cartoons.
Congratulations Jennifer, you really deserved this You've been my favourite designer on this site for a looong time, I couldn't think of anyone better for the vflayouts thing. I'm excited to see what you do with it.
