About Me
Asylum XIII was formed in late 2008 by former Heaven Falls Hard and Mpiredwn member Daemon. Originally a "vanity project" never intended to see the light of day, he set to writing music. Intermingling the influences of punk and goth, he created art reminiscent of the "deathrock" genre, drawing multiple comparisons other bands, including Bauhaus, TSOL, and most strongly Rozz Williams' incarnation of Christian Death. Receiving overwhelming positive feedback and demand via the internet, Daemon then began recruiting members who could take Asylum live. At this point, one Asylum song "Narcissus" began being played in demo form on NY radio stations while another, "Excommunication", appeared in live form on Shinto Records' gothic compilation "Lunar Sea". Some of the more popular songs from Asylum's set include the pop-punk oriented uptempo tracks "Narcissus" and "Vanity", both based very strongly on the belief that only in loving yourself and embracing who you truly are can any others love you, and that you should never change for anyone. There's the gothic opus "Excommunication" and punk cabaret flavored "Before the Fall", both of which are centered around strong feelings against organized religion, and "I Do, which is musically reminiscent of a goth-rock version of a circus. Overall, it's very pop priented post punk goth rock with a strong deathrock vibe. Having shared the stage with multiple acts, including Mary Magdalan, Deadstar Assembly, Cynergy 67, The Gentorturers and others, Asylum is currently booking locally in the Chesapeake/Norfolk area as well as other shows along the east coast, including the Age of Decay festival in Jacksonville, FL with Ex-Voto, Lestat, Entertainment, Sapphire Rebellion, The Drowning Season, Strap On Halo, and Ending The Vicious Cycle (www.ageofdecay.com). Current members include Daemon, formerly of Heaven Falls Hard and Mpiredwn, on vocals; Crazy Dave, formerly of Heaven Falls Hard, on guitar; David L, former Terrormony, on bass; and newcomers to the scene Jade on synths and Rich on drums.
