ART DIKTATOR is an electro-industrial-dance duo from Istanbul, Turkey; formed by Hakan Nurcanlı (lead vocals, bass guitar) and Adviye Nurcanlı (synthesizers, backing vocals). Founder of the band; Hakan Nurcanlı is one of the most important figures of Turkey’s avant-garde scene, and beyond debate the most extreme one, has been around for more than 20 years. He’s also known with his previous bands DEATHROOM (pioneer death metal, grindcore band of Turkey active between 1989-1994), and NEOPLAST (pioneer industrial, and later gothic rock, darkwave band of Turkey active between 1997-2008) Hakan Nurcanlı has been using the title ‘‘Art Diktator’’ since 1997. (As the leader of Neoplast, later for his one man band project between the years 2007-2011 and present.) The title ‘‘Art Diktator’’ is not only about music, but also about attitute, visuals, fashion, etc... It is polydisciplinaire. It’s a brief way of self-expression, way of survival. Since the end of 2011, Art Diktator continues as a duo. With the dark lyrics, and the high energy as the main characteristics of their music, the duo describe their genre as ‘‘dark energy’’. Art Diktator also stands for originality, and avoid being too similar with the other bands on the scene. The duo released their debut EP, ‘‘Ultimo Disco Inferno’’ in February 2012. Art Diktator is simply a ‘‘do it yourself’’ band. Besides their music; the band uses visuals, drawn by Hakan, accompanies to band’s live performance which are consist of futurism, individualism, nature, sex, religion, violance, fetishism, bondage, abnormalities, and death. Adviye prepares the visuals for live performances, and makes band’s music videos. The band is recently featured on The Gothy Horror Picture Show compilation album, a soundtrack album dedicated to the kultish film ''The Rocky Horror Picture Show'' which was released in October 2012. The track ''Hayvan'' from the Ultimo Disco Inferno EP is featured on UK goth/alternative magazine Unscene Magazine's covermount cd on December 2012. Another track ''Serseri’’ from the EP, is also featured on Devolution Magazine’s covermount cd in Issue 33 in December 2012. Art Diktator continuously gigs at well known night clubs of Istanbul including Dogzstar & Peyote, and also other cities in Turkey. They had played in Finland, Denmark and Ukraine before as internationally. The duo has recently supported VNV Nation at Cyberfront Festival, which is the major electro/synth/ebm/industrial event of ex-USSR, taking place in Kiev, Ukraine.
