Oh, hello.
Please allow me to introduce myself: my name is Xanthippe and I am myself. But to a stranger, that doesn't say a lot. I'll tell you more. That is, if you want to know.
I look very average. Not very tall. Not slim, but not fat either. Messy, dark blonde hair and brown eyes that can turn very big and empty when I'm daydreaming - and that happens a lot. I'm not really unhappy about the way I look, but not extremely happy about it either.
I was born on the 29th of March, 1992. Or at least, so I was told. I was raised as a human, I look like one and sound like one. But somehow I have always felt 'different' (and alone), and have always been drawn to the unknown and to things most people call 'fantasy' (also referred to as 'fiction' or 'rubbish'). By the time I (or rather, my body) was nine, I knew most of what's to know about vampires and werewolves and had even tried to sleep upside down once. I was fascinated by magic, and before I turned twelve I already knew a great deal about wicca. The interest is still there and I never really stopped learning.
I'm very shy and silent when I first meet someone, but once I feel comfortable around someone my personality turns around - I become an extravert and jumpy person, and talk too much.
I know a lot of people. Some of them are merely acquaintances, a "hello, it's been a while, how are you, goodbye". Some of them are people I'd do anything for.
I'm a tolerant and forgiving person - too forgiving, actually - but that does not mean that I forget. I try to be friendly to people I don't like too. Only two or three people have annoyed me enough to make me stop tolerating. It all comes down to these basic rules: "whatever you do comes back to you, but three times worse" and "do as you wish, as long as you harm no-one".
I am an artist. I love to draw (and I've been told I'm quite good at it) - my school material is filled with sketches of all kinds, and I love painting as well. I've started sewing too, but I'm still learning. I also sing in the Antwerp Cathedral Choir and my school choir, and have been doing so for six years (I have one of our choir songs in my music player).
I'm a bit of a perfectionist, but can be very sloppy at the same time.
Here comes the only part of this profile you'll remember: I'm a romantic, tender person, but I have a thing for bdsm too. No, don't even think about it; this profile is for making friends, I'm not looking for a boyfriend and I'm not looking for sex either.
As you'll notice in my gallery, I don't stick to one style. I mostly wear Victorianesque/Classic clothing (with some lolita-ish influences every now and then), but some wardrobe variation never killed anyone.

{What's in a name?}

"What's in a name? That which we call a rose by any other word would smell as sweet."

- W. Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet.

I didn't grab my name out of thin air, and it's special enough to write a special page about.
When I was born, my mother wanted to name me "Xanthippe". It became my second name, since my father thought children with weird names get picked on (but that happened anyway, even with a more common first name).

{Etymology}
Xanthippe (Xanqippe) is a contraction of 2 ancient Greek words:

  • xanqh (xanthè), meaning "blonde", and
  • ippos (hippos), horse, or ippeus (hippeus), rider.
    Conclusion: "Xanthippe" either means "blonde mare" or "blonde rider".

    {History}
    Xanthippe was the (2nd) wife of Socrates, a very important Greek philosopher who lived in the late fifth century b.C.
    She is told to have been a very ill-tempered woman (so, basically, I'm named after a bitch).
    But actually, she was probably just worried about her husband talking to strangers all day, risking his life because of what he was saying, instead of making money for his wife and 3 children.
    She did not completely understand her husband's behavior, and neither did the Greek government - Socrates was sentenced to death for blasphemy and disturbance of the peace.

  • I have a little brother, Jonas, who is a little bit obsessed by everything Steampunk- (and Fantasy-)related. We get along very well – we go to metal concerts and fantasy events together, share some hobbies and interests, and have the same kind of humor. I think I raised him very well.

  • Phil.. What can I say? Loopy, English, and one of the best things that happened to me so far. I love making him happy.

  • Lady Fiona, one of the sweetest girls in the entire world and my chmoeki, my sugarplum, my darling- my best friend.

  • My best friend, Lupos, is übersweet, although he can be really mean if he wants to... But he's always there for me. He kind of is my guardian angel, if he doesn't mind me saying so.

  • Retnac is one of the most fascinating creatures I've ever met. If you count out his psychopathic tendencies, the necrophilia and the sado-masochism, he's quite sweet. (Yes, that sentence was written with his permission).

  • A handsome gent named Maximilian. A stylish gentleman not only in his appearance, but also in his deeds. An artist, both on the stage and on paper. An interesting, intelligent, friendly and trustworthy person.

  • Laurens is wonderful but oh so young and still has to learn oh so much. But one day he'll be a wonderful gentleman (with my help, ofcourse).

  • Zieg is at least as sweet and wonderful as his little brother Laurens, together they make a slightly awkward but fantastic pair.

  • Rolf, the most sweet and helpful person the world has ever seen. He's wonderful.

  • A stylish young lad, known by most people as Soren. He may be hated by some, but he's loved by many others. He always has a witty remark up his sleeve, but can be very serious an philosophical too. And if all that fails to impress, there's always his passion for economics... and socks.

  • Underneath a lot of cyber-ish plastic you'll find Lord Bone. He is the frontman of the über cool industrial project Recon and kind of thinks he has a copyright on the concept of 'cyber victorian'. Things are always fun when he's around.

  • Lady Sirja, a wonderful girl with a lot of style and a special talent: playing her cello. She's simply an angel without wings and has the most beautiful, fascinating eyes Mankind has ever seen.

  • Stein (yes, with ei) is the hottest Victorian in Antwerp and surroundings, and also very fond of my rubber duckie.

  • My unofficial sister, Sanne, is simply adorable! Go adore her now (and rate her 10 while you're at it)!

  • Quiet but charming, Timmy is the man who only knows KMFDM for an answer! (and one of the nicest, sincerest guys I kow).

  • Andres is both a cute little darling and a wonderful friend. He also is a real goofball...

  • Netaab, a girl with a life that is more difficult than she deserves, but that doesn't mean that she isn't fantastic!

  • De Geëerde Directeur-President van de GotiekFabriek, our lovely Izzy-girl! Always gracious, cute, smart and dignified, she can lighten up anyone's day!

  • A lovely girl named Anne, who adores piccomments (and so do I *hinthint*)!

  • Ghosty; No matter what distance between us, I'll always love her!

  • Lady Eadwine, a good friend of mine and the owner of our MSN group, , Witchcraft_Love_Xx So all you Dutch-speaking pagans can check it out!
