Radio-Active-Music.com is a label & distribution network based in Virginia Beach, VA, for industrial, goth, and electronic artists. Founded in 2004, Radio-Active-Music has released more than twenty albums, and distributed dozens of unsigned and up-and-coming acts in the genre. Radio-Active-Music.com is home to many acts, including 23RAINYDAYS, The Dark Clan (side project of Stromkern), Hopeful Machines (side project of Ego Likeness), Reaver, Third Realm, and XUBERX. While Radio-Active-Music.com started as an online magazine and networking site, the company eventually grew into an indie label and distribution hub after watching small bands struggle to gain exposure. Drawing from both direct experience with other indie lables as well as commentary from a variety of artists, Radio-Active-Music.com is now on the front lines, utilizing budding technology and broad networking to provide a simple, effective, and wide-reaching push to the bands we represent. Radio-Active-Music.com was founded in May 2004 as a webzine and online community for goth & industrial artists by Laura Hofford, aka “Valdyr”. Valdyr’s career in artist support began through theatre design & technology (BA, Theatre Arts, Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University, 2004), but took a slight change in direction when she was offered an internship at D1 Music (label operated by Jay Gordon of Orgy). During her internship, she gained a considerable amount of experience in A&R, internet radio, and webdesign (including designing & maintaining the website for electro-industrial artist Fluffy Starr for many years). After graduation, she launched her own website to support the goth/industrial community, by providing a new hub for reviews, interviews, and fan interaction. In late 2005, Valdyr relocated to Washington, DC, and Radio-Active-Music.com’s involvement in the scene began to grow. Over the next few years, Radio-Active-Music.com’s artist services expanded to include live show promotion & booking, intensive online & street promotion, and - finally - CD production & distribution. Some of Radio-Active-Music.com’s most notable projects during this time included booking at the club Midnight in Washington DC from July of 2006 until January of 2009, the label’s yearly Nuclearfest (a summer festival supporting up-and-coming acts in the genre), founded in 2007, and promotional management for Strangeland Records (an indie record store specializing in obscure genres), for most of the store’s time in existence. By late 2008, Radio-Active-Music.com made the decision to focus solely on it’s expanding artist roster & distribution network. For the last two years, Radio-Active-Music.com has increased the production schedule and artist offerings, and continues to look for new and improved ways to bring the fans the best new artists in the genre.
