Profile:
After 8 years the Dutch emotive doom band Prey has decided to quit. A statement by the band: Dear reader, In the last couple of weeks a series of unfortunate events occurred to Prey. In recent events we had to cancel a show in Belgium. Following this event was Matthijs’ decision to leave the band. Last Sunday, the remaining members Jurgen, Mariët, David, Almar and Roeland discussed Prey’s perspective. Due to various reasons we came to the conclusion that however we feel very strongly for Prey, it is not possible to continue in a way that is working for all members and therefore have decided to call it quits. Looking back on a period of eight years we have had great times and also some hard times. We have made quite some progress in these years and we thank each other, our ex-members and fans for that. All remaining individuals will continue making music by means of other projects or bands. For those interested, future news can be found on www.prey-band.com All the best, Prey Stukje Astray: Stukje Parallel Wounds:

History
Prey arose from the ashes of Immortalized in 1999. The band released their first promo "Fly to..." in the second half of 2001. It was recorded in one take, home-produced, and burned onto CD-ROM. The response to these 18 minutes of blood, sweat and tears was tremendous. "Fly to..." sold out in a matter of months. It was never re-released, because Prey has been through several line-up changes since then, and these recordings no longer represent what Prey stands for now.

Style
Prey has developed a very diverse repertoire, inspired by the widely differing tastes of individual band members. Prey's songs are always very melodic, and usually tend towards the melancholy. The band makes it a priority to make Heartfelt Music; our lyrics tend to be reflections on real experiences and emotions, and the music itself breathes life into those beautifully sung lyrics.

Live
Live on stage, Prey goes loose, because the music is truly heartfelt, and we all love performing. The last few years, Prey has had the honour to grace the stage alongside great metal bands such as: Anathema, Epica, Autumn, Sengir, The Wounded and Morning. About our performances:

Gothtronic.com: "the first sounds that reached my ears were the dark melodic sounds from the band called PREY. This band has grown a lot since the last time I've seen them. The music can be compared to the band Anathema: dark atmospheric metal with an ominous character, which distinguishes itself with emotional vocals. The band felt like they were in their element this night. They heated up the audience with their fire. This is a band that we are going to hear a lot from in the future"

New album
Finally, halfway 2004, Prey released a new album, Heartfelt. This album is being received very well by fans and critics alike.

Headache Magazine (NL): "it can be hard to pay equal attention to every CD that is up for review. Simply because there are albums you just never want to take from your CD player, because they grab you by the throat and never let go. "Heartfelt" is one of those albums".

Aardschok (NL): "music that comes straight from the heart"

Vampster.com (DE): "With Prey we have another promising combo from the land of the tulips and the tomatoes"

Gothtronic.com (NL): "The music on "Heartfelt" is very emotional gothic rock / metal that works heavily on your mood"
