Profile:
First some recognition! Smuterina has made some wonderful artwork and I'm hosting two of her pieces. The green one is called "Wafflehenge" and I think it's brilliant (even though she doesn't seem to understand). The other is her drawing of me, which is also a sight to behold (the drawing, not me, hehe). It's the one done with pencil. and now on to my profile... Currently too busy with studies for school, studies as a hobby, studies for work and work itself, I actually don't know what I'm doing here. No, honestly, I've met some wonderful people here in the past (check out my friends list) and I guess it's just gratitude that I still keep coming back here (and it's quite nifty saying you have a VF profile at gothic parties, which I occasionally still attend.) by the way, for those in doubt, I'm Robert August de Meyer, Robert August de Meijer to others and Madspunky to whoever gets around enough on the internet to have spotted me somewhere else.
sophistication. development. politics. feminist. culture. post-modern. spiritual. dark. nihilistic. fantasy*. Vegan. anarchy. bdsm. RPG's. desperation. magic mushrooms. Art, Art, Art!!! cultural studies. gender studies. dynamic creative challenges. People who are aware of being open minded and intellectual, and continue feeding their mind. And most of all: discussions where you don't feel like your waiting your turn to talk. Oh, yeah, how can I forget?!? Gender Benders!!! And now for a long list of favorite authors (more or less in order of preference) Chuck Palahniuk, John Fante, Charles Bukowski, Anne-Marie MacDonald, Kurt Vonnegut, Bret Easton Ellis, Ann Scott, JD Salinger, Anja Meulenbelt, Philip Roth, JK Rowling, Robert Pirsig, Jeanette Winterson, Don DeLillo, Darcy Frey, Michel FaberJack London, Franz Kafka, Woody Allen, William S. Burroughs, J.S. Foer, David Eggers, Thomas Pynchon, W.F. Hermans, William Golding, Joseph Heller, Jack Keroac, Paullo Coelho, JD Ballard, Anne Rice John Irving, Hunter S. Thompson, Sarah Waters, Tanith Lee, HP Lovecraft, James Joyce, Weiss & Hickman. On to movies, there would be too many to list, but at the tip of my tongue my favorites would be "C'est arrivé près de chez vous", Tarkovsky, Woody Allen, Kubrick, Aranofsky, "Fight Club", Lynch and that one scene in "Apocalypse Now". I'm not a big fan of Peter Jackson and most of the horror genre doesn't provoke much entertainment for me. Yes, even Sam Raimi. When it comes to visual arts, Picasso blows me away. Margritte always leaves me in a wonderfully contemplating mood. Strangely, I'm not too much a fan of the surrealistics such as Dali and Kahlo, even though I love their personalities! Strangely Munch doesn't touch me that much either, whereas Van Gogh really does! And then there's Lichtenstein. I cannot describe why I like him so much! And I love seeing post-modern influence. I prize intellect much higher than emotions and originality.(especially among video games!). Geiger? I'm not a big fan, but I do like it how his work seems rather sexy even though there isn't any sex going on! Meireles' "Zero Dollar" and other political art strikes me with both hope and hatred at the same time. As for politics: my heart follows ultra left wing ideals... and my mind has me thinking more practical things. Politics wouldn't be complete without conflict. You could say I'm in a phase now that I often don't choose sides. Chatting with Tragic Teacup and Smuterina, who you can also find among these pages. Alas, I'm never online anymore. Do miss them a bit, have to admit.
Dislikes:
Simple. Sloth. Hesitent. Sexism. Apathy. And honestly, I don't like getting "10's" just for being a profile. I suppose people who do that expect something back. Is "greed" the right word to descibe such actions? What really makes me want to cry are all these raging hormones! Face it, we're better off without half of this population. If only there were some humane answer to all this! I also wish our patriachtric society would stop surpressing female intuition. * Actually, there's more fantasy I dislike than enjoy. I'll give some credit to Bradley/Rowling/Asimov/ hell even to Weiss and Hickmann and Tolkien... but I'm deeply disturbed by how many people I know who would be better off reading Melville/Joyce/Mailer/Pynchon/Tolstoj/Dickens/Salinger/whatever than 10 parts of Robert Jordan's "The Waste of Time" or Stephan King. I'm really open about this: if you're still reading King, you had better start improving that taste of yours! Feel free to attack but be prepare to discuss!
Favorite Music:
Monotonous. Really monotonous. Diverse. Really diverse. Beastie Boys. Miles Davis. Alter Ego. Daft Punk. JD and the Devil's Dynamite Band. Charlie Parker. John Mills. DJ Krush. Art Blakey. John Coltrane. Venetian Snares. Aphex Twin What, no gothic? Yes, but I only listen to it at gothic parties and I don't take the time to ask the names of the bands. And by the time I know the names, their music bores me. Clan of Xymox, Nick Cave and Sisters of Mercy I occasionaly put on. And then there's Beethoven, who single handily obsoletes all other music people listen to that "puts 'em in the mood for the good old ultra violence". Yes, like the same stuff in your cd player RIGHT NOW with whatever sexy sounding morbid name the band has. And then of course, there's Wagner... A list of things I believe in: don´t tolerate injustice don´t tolerate cruelty vote write your your elected representatives be honost dance alot talk to strangers find work that satisfies you play games go outside stop smoking eat more organically grown food read alot make music learn to play an instrument write letters entertain people don´t buy products tested on animals throw away your car stay up late wake up early be active walk in the woods protest make yourself happy be in love with your god have sex with soemone you love invite your friends to dinner support organisations doing good work be tolerant to differances walk sit on rooftops climb in trees swim learn a new language apaloagies to the rest of the world buy used clothes recycle assume you're wrong use pubic trasportation find out about reusable sources of energy imagen a world without people make bread sing write messages on walls draw pictures go somewhere you´ve never been before run get angry at what we´ve done to this planet eat less animal products talk to old people teach smell flowers masturbate listen to different types of music cherish the time your sepend with friends be friends with your neighbors enjoy art share your feelings with people who care take your time fart burp laugh about farts and burps think different look up the words peace and love be a trustworthy friend look at the moon and stars give your friends hugs dont neglect your instincts take chances smile be honost to yourself pick your nose keep in touch with everyone try new stuff all the time meet new people compliment your friends be proud of other people´s accomplishments feel strong tell other people what you think is a good thing to do now, if you don't mind, I'd like to quote some Fante. "I went to the library. I looked at the magazines, at the pictures in them. One day I went to the bookshelves, and pulled out a book. It was "Winesburg, Ohio". I sat at a long mahogany table and began to read. All at once my world came. My heart beat fast. I read until my eyes burned. I read, and I was heartsick and lonely and in love with a book, many books, until it came naturally, and I sat there with a pencil and a long tablet, and tried to write, until I felt I could not go on because the words would not come as they did in Anderson, they only came like drops of blood from my heart."
