I'm just that guy you see here and there in the Toronto Queen St. W. clubs, nothing really special. The one you've seen lots of times but don't really know except as that "Oh yeah, him, I see him around all the time, dunno who he is." guy. I've met a bunch of people over the years though, and kindly on their part they call me friend. I try to fool myself into thinking I am shy, introverted, and aloof, but yet I always seem to be saying hello and chatting to people I know either well or merely acquainted with. Or in following a rule of thumb I have in meeting two new people every time I go out, I introduce myself to people I don't know. Go figure.
In the Society for Creative Anachronism I am THL Randwulf Widefarer. On LiveJournal I am Randwulf. On IAM.bmezine I am Randwulf. On TorontoRaves and Tribe I am Randwulf. See a pattern here? Heh heh heh. But someone on VF already has Randwulf so I'm going with Lord_Randwulf here. Oh well. Oh yeah, I'm also on MySpace as well.
At Fetish Masquerades I am that vanilla fellow who doesn't "play" but is friendly with a lot who do. I'm a die-hard regular of DarkRaves only having missed 5 of them during the nearly 8 years of going to them. I was a Friday night semi-regular at the now defunct Savage Garden. A longtime fan, I can almost always be seen in the audience of Vampire Beach Babes concerts and they seem to like my amatuerish photos of them so they are gracious enough to post them on their site. I was also a long-time regular of the now defunct Red Square though I am now a regular at the Mikado's After Dark in St. Catharines and bounce easily and regularly between the St. Catharines and Toronto goth scenes.
While I have been kinda sorta in the goth scene for the last 10 or 11 years I can't claim elder goth status on that basis alone. But being my age I kinda sorta can. I'm long past the age of taking myself too seriously and it carries over into my goth life in not taking it too seriously either. I am just as apt to be dressed in head to toe PVC as I am in wearing dark pants and dark shirt with obnoxious white UV reactive swirls all over it or a tiger print shirt. Why? To point out to you that we are all different, and we as goths can't claim to be truly different from everyone else, if we're all dressed the same!
A word of warning to any and all to whom this may be disturbing but another way I am different from the crowd is that I am a licensed firearms owner. I can't do anything about your feelings on the matter, nor do I choose to. The only concession I will make is that you will never see me posting photos of my ugly mug glaring at you with guns in hand aimed at the camera like that Kimveer Gill idiot, which is a lame thing to do regardless. But you may see journal posts with pictures of my rifles or pistols in them or pictures of me at the range with firearms pointed in a safety-conscious, non-threatening manner. That's the best I can do for you though.
What is this, a dating service? "I like candlelit dinners, good conversation and long walks on the beach"??? "Or I like Mother-effin Pina Coladas and walks in the rain???" *grin* I like a bunch of different things. In fact you could say a la Ralph Wiggums that, I like stuff.
That said, the one thing I will say I like is my life and how it's going. It's pretty damn good and I wouldn't trade it for anything. I have a good job that, though I have to dress conservatively, still puts up with my quirks and eccentricities, a well-running car (the Mighty Mighty Saturn!) with 623,000 km that still gets great gas mileage, a house that's paid off, numerous friends and acquaintances that are a joy to know and be with, so life is good and I like it!
And given this scene's penchant for being mopey and depressed, I like standing out from the crowd in being upbeat and happy!
Now, if you want to know what my interests are, go to my LiveJournal profile and take a peek there.
Oh I get it, it's a Playboy centrefold thing! "My turn-offs include close-minded people, people who don't bathe, and people who think I'm a slut because I have my knees up to my ears and you can see my belly button, from the inside! inside, inside, inside. Hello? Hello? Hello? Hello? Echo! Echo! Echo! Echo!" *snort*
I dislike stuff. I try my best to dislike as little as possible, or at least dislike fewer things than the things I do like. Frankly, it's too much of a waste of time and energy to go around with a hate on, when you'd be better served in just ignoring the small, inconsequential things in life that irk you. 'Nuff said on that too.
Some goth, but mostly Industrial/EBM/Synthpop. Also keen on Psytrance, some Hardcore/Gabber/etc. but not HHC (shudder). Plus a varied assortment of other stuff including Stan Rogers, Mojo Nixon and Skid Roper, Sigue Sigue Sputnik (my guilty pleasure), Stompin' Tom Conners, etc, etc.
