Opinions Same Sex Marriage I can understand all the points of view on the topic of Same-Sex Marriage. Each person is entitled to their own opinion of it, until it infringes on others rights. Not being able to get insurance because of not being married, is infringing on rights. Not being permitted to see someone you love, because of not being married, is also infringing on rights. I think they should have the same rights as everyone else. It’s just a matter of rights.
However, on a lighter note, I do enjoy this
link. It makes it seem obnoxious it is that we deny rights.
Equality Among People No. Some people are not fit for things that others are. I know that’s a vague statement. Say someone with a less than 100 IQ (that’s average) wants to be a scientist, because he feels he’s equal to someone who has a 180 IQ (genius). Or say me, who can’t walk without tripping, is giving shots.
Equality would be idealistic, if everyone were the same, with the same thoughts, same ability to cope with things, looked the same, dressed the same, and had the same backgrounds, but we aren’t, and we don’t, and I couldn’t feasibly say that we ever would, so no, there isn’t equality among us. To end this, my one of my favourite quotes, “Colours paint the grey away.” Monotony would be a drag.
Plus you need differences among people to judge them. (OMGSH, like judging and labels are bad.)I think that without differences you wouldn’t be able to tell good from bad. If there was no good, you’d have to judge bad against. Equality in relativity.
Societal Equality Yes. If you know what a gender role is, then, it isn’t equal. I don’t think it will ever be equal. Females are naturally weaker than men. I mean there are exceptions, but as long as you have rules, you’ll have exceptions.
In the work place, I believe that women can do just as well as men, and therefore should be paid the same. At home & societally, I think they should be treated the same. They are, in fact, people, however, as long as you have more men than women in power (of anything) you won’t see that change.
Nihilism I personally have a belief system crossed between Nihilism and Universalism, and I have the belief that every religion is actually the same one. (Now I’ll almost guarantee I’ll have pissed off anyone who is religious, if you want to inbox me hate or questions feel free.) I do think there is some higher being. Somewhere. Someplace. I don’t think there is an afterlife, or any reward for being good, any consequences for being evil. I think you just die. That’s it, end of the line. Some people need something to live for, that little reward system, and if that is what keeps someone going, then good for them. They have their thing to live for. Some people need a place to vent and be told how to live. That’s fine too, if that is what keeps people living. However, I’ve yet to see proof of them, until then, I don’t think anyone, has the right to say nihilism is bad. I think it’s just as equal as every other religion.
Obesity I can’t help but laugh at all the research. I don’t believe there are causes genetically linked to obesity. This problem has never been seen before. Everyone was active until computers were home-based, and available to everyone. People, always, do things in excess, this time it’s legal. I think in the last 3 days I’ve seen less than 20 people outside, and I live near a park. There are more entertaining things now, that don’t involve much effort.
True, there are such things as a high metabolism and diabetes. I think diabetes is directly related to obesity, and that obesity is related to lack of exercise. I think people will look for any excuse but themselves.
Personality vs. Looks This one is hard to explain without coming off as an ass. I have worked in associations with community mental health clinics for 8 months. My family has been running an adult foster care home since I think 2001/2002. I have worked with people who are retarded (and yes, look it) and they have touched my life more than anyone else ever has. There are other people there who look absolutely normal, and are so off their rocker that, that it takes two, sometimes three adult males to handle them.
Now to actually tie that in, I think it’s a combination of personality and looks. With the training I’ve had, if people don’t take care of themselves, which involves the upkeep of how you look, then there is probably something wrong mentally, it could be a number of mental illnesses. I’ve learned to completely analyze people without meaning to. If something’s a little off kilter, I usually pick up on it within a couple minutes.
I think you need to spend time with a person to get to know them rather than judge them. Personality and looks depends on someone’s mood. You have to know all their moods before you can judge them.
Teenage Pregnancy Teenage pregnancy, ugh. First off, where the hell are the parents?! Secondly, it isn’t that hard to keep it in your pants. I think every teenager should have to babysit a kid somewhere around age 2. I swear that has to be the best birth control. I don’t think kids, who can’t control their impulses, and can’t handle responsibility, should be having kids. They’re screwing up their lives, and they’re screwing up their kids lives. I’ve seen a couple kids born to teenage parents, and how they’re turning out. It isn’t pretty. There are some mature teenagers. But the ones who are mature, are the ones not having kids.
Public vs. Private Schooling You can only move as fast as the slowest is going. I don’t like either, someone is going to hold you back, or you’ll be holding back someone. I prefer self-education. I’m currently teaching myself two languages, and trying to find my calculus & latin programs. I’ve learned more out of school, than in school. My brothers went to a private school, for some reason I didn’t, but they hated it. I think each person needs to find what works for them, and pursue that, instead of learning in a group. People think differently, therefore learn differently.
Suicide I don’t think it’s wrong. I think it’s an inability to cope with your surroundings. I can understand being upset over a loss, but I feel terrible for those who survive the death. It’s a terrible feeling knowing you weren’t able help.
I think in schools, in health classes, and the like, there should be a course on coping mechanisms. Each student should be given someone they can reach. Students should be treated as people, not just another body in the classroom.
Religion Oh boy, religion. This one cracks me up more than anything else. I can’t remember them all, but there are always the same five things to each religion/myth. One is that the hero is somehow related to the gods. Another is that there is some flood, and that someone receives news from the gods to build a boat. Humanity is exterminated at one point or another. There has to be some perilous journey to attain the hero status. I’m not going to go through each one to prove it, but if you look at any of the religions they all have that.
My personal religion, I can’t remember the name for it, but it’s basically singularity. The universe will collapse upon itself, and eventually, become the universe again. I’m also a bit of a nihilist. I do think there is some higher being. Somewhere. However, I’ve yet to see proof of them, until then I’m going to believe each is a
myth religion.
Abortion I love how everyone thinks that you should have the kid. I think you should think about what’s best for you and the child. If it will ruin your life, and the child’s, then it really isn’t worth it. I do believe you shouldn’t make the decision as you’re giving birth, and you break its neck before they’re born. My personal beliefs is that if you catch it before its first brain cell is formed, around two and a half months, then it isn’t a thinking person who has a mind. It’s a group of stem cells, and we all saw what happened with those.
Even if the mother is having a monthly abortion, that child, or those children, are better off not alive. They deserve a better lifestyle.
Morally and ethically, abortion is wrong. It
is killing something. But human nature is survival of the fittest, -social Darwinism. You have to do what you have to do to survive.
Cloning and Stem Cell Research I’m stepping over cloning to go to stem cells. I don’t believe cloning is all that great, however, using cloning to get stem cells, is definitely a way to go. If you had to watch your child die, because of something that could be fixed due to a cell, from an umbilical cord, that we just throw away- I think anyone would be pissed.
There’s a lady where my boyfriend works, her son most likely won’t live past 18 because of sickle cell anemia, something that can be fixed by stem cell research.
I don’t think we should be replacing like organs to people who are elderly, because they aren’t going to make it too much longer anyway, but to let someone waste away, when they’ve yet to reach their prime, is just pathetic.
