Latest Journal Entry: Watch this and think about it.   December 12, 2008, 01:51pm

I think you're important. Really I am here to talk to you. Please review the video below and let me know what you think? Perhaps we can, "reason together." Just for the record, I am here to be friends with people. After you view the video and we talk about it you don't have to worry about me calling you names or anything else for that matter. I hope you would extend the same decency to me. I would like to make genuine friends with people. After the introductory period you may get invited to read my journal and I will post bulletins every once in awhile with some Christian stuff in it. If you can handle that... I'd love to befriend you. I hope you enjoy learning more about me, Christians (in general), and hopefully about yourself as well.

Likes

"During the 1st century BC, a cult of Mithra, made much progress in Rome, after enduring persecution, when some Emperors adopted the religion... Mithra became very popular among the Roman legionaries and later even among the Emperors. The worship of Mithra was first recognized by Emperor Aurelian and he instituted the cult of "Sol Invictus" or the Invincible Sun. Emperor Diocletian also a worshipper of Mithra, the Sun God, burned much of the Christian scriptures in 307 A.D.

This enabled Emperor Constantine to merge the cult of Mithra with that of Christianity that was developing much. He declared himself a Christian but at the same time maintained his ties to the Mithra cult. He retained the title "Pontifus Maximus" the high priest. On his coins were inscribed: "Sol Invicto comiti" which means, commited to the invincible sun. This new blend of the two faiths, he officially proclaimed as Christianity. Christianity spread all over the Roman empire and Eastern Europe by massive persecution and brought and end to a variety of religions that flourished there. [...]

Until the fourth century, Mithra and Christianity were distinct but after Constantine, the two cults were blended to form the new faith that was to conquer most of the world."

The fact that Jesus was born and you guys believe he is the messiah is not what I have an issue with. I have an issue with the fact that he was not born on December 25. He was born in June. Actually, December 25 would be celebrating the birthday of Mithra, a persian warrior God. In ancient Rome, Mithra had a very popular cult and Constantine was a follower of the Mithraic religion. When he proclaimed himself as a Christian, he stayed in the Mithraic cult and combined the two together to make the transition easier for the Roman populace to accept. One of the things incorporated from the Mithraic religion is the birthday of December 25th.

I'm very curious, do you celebrate Christmas on the 25th of December even though it is not truly Jesus's birthday?

Have you actually read through the whole Bible?: Not literally, I suppose, but nearly all.

Have you asked God to reveal Himself? No. Not really. I just sort of... I dunno, like it sounds weird but I feel it. I know there must be something more than me.

Why is it that God is an option but not the Christian God? I suppose the Christian God is an option, but the other day I was reading the Bible and there was a part where God killed a man because the man wouldn't impregnant his brother's wife. I can't see God like that. I think it might just be the way that the Book depicts God that I don't like.

If there is a God what would that look like? Idk. I think of Him (It, as I call it in my mind) as more of a feeling than a being, but I guess It has to be a being, technically, doesn't It?

What does it take for you to be 'saved' and what does that mean? I don't understand the question.

If you could be religious in your way, what would that look like? I don't know, I guess just being faithful to God as I would be faithful to any friend/loved one.

well, I'm just sort of not sure what to think anymore. It seems like the Bible is just a bunch of stories that have been told (albeit with variation) over thousands of years. I'm positive that I believe in God, but other than that I can't figure out what I really belive and what I just want to believe, because I've grown up being taught the Christian religion.

one last thing. With regard to Hypatia? How is a woman daring to teach philosophy and mathematics more sinful than a crowd of savage servants of god dragging a defenceless woman through the streets, flaying her alive with shells and setting her ablaze outside their house of worship? Or are the teachings of Plato (to whose school she belonged) truly so evil? And if so, why was it her that was targeted specifically?
And that bastard Cyril who condemned her was sainted by the Church of the God you promote, along with countless other sadists, murderers, hyppocrites and pointlessly stubborm martyrs.

And the slaughter of every Cathar man woman and child? who sinned only in not being catholics, having been a pacifist acetic Christian sect. Yet you say they were more sinful than the blood-thirsty money-grabbing members of the papacy?

I'd rather suffer eternally in non-existent hell than kneel before a god that advocates so much bloodshed and who is so profoundly anti-intellectual, and who is served by such patronising preachers as yourself.

I wish you all the best, dear sir, for I feel you are as sorely misled as you believe me to be.

goodbye.
