About Me
Life is grand when you remember pain is temporary.

Welcome to my little corner of self-promotion and self-indulgence on Vampire Freaks. Since you found your way here you are probably wanting to know a bit about me so here goes!

I am a DJ and promoter here in Ottawa, ON with my current project being called Death Disco and various iterations there of. I originally got involved in DJing and promoting in late fall of 2007 after getting far to drunk at my 32nd birthday party with a very good friend. Fully believing in the adage "Always do sober what you said you'd do drunk" Jeff and I threw ourselves into promoting and, eventually, I got into DJing after being forced - seriously - to try it out at my friend Danny's place.

The initial promotion we set-up was called Re-Vamp, and though the night is basically dead at this point in time, it was a chance to learn a lot of important lessons and make some great friends while reaching out and making contacts in the local club scene.

In the spring of 2009, I split Re-Vamp into two groups after my friend a co-promoter went off to chase new dreams. The original Re-Vamp was turned over to the original two DJs whose interest was in more electronic sounds while I took the other three DJs and formed Death Disco, my current passion. While Re-Vamp has basically become a memory to all those who lived it, Death Disco has flourished.

I ended up at a new venue running weekly Sunday night events. Unlike Re-Vamp, I was being paid to be at the new club so Death Disco was free. The location wasn't great and the turnout at first was beyond brutal but the owner was a fan of mine - I spun at his place for a couple of fetish nights - so he stuck it out with me. Slowly but surely the numbers came up and by mid summer Death Disco was one hell of a Sunday night party and we had become the most profitable night of the week for the venue. They loved us and the patrons loved them so of course fate had to intervene and take out legs out just as we launched a second night at the club.

The club and the building owner didn't really get along and after the club owner found the building owner poking around his office one afternoon a midnight move ensued and Death Disco was homeless once again. The difference this time is that I had contacts and a proven winner of a night.

So off I went to find a new home for Death Disco. At first, I could find a home but the new night, Neon Nights, landed at the Cajun Attic where the bartender from the old place ended up, We ended up with a Monday - completely brutal - but beggars can't be choosers and the owner of the Attic was awesome and did right by me and the patrons of the night. He was also a big fan of the music so it was an easy sell when I came looking for a place to hold my Halloween Party! This turned out to be a fantastic break for Death Disco.

I ended up finding a small club just out of the regular bar area called Swizzles that had no regular Saturday nights so I contacted them about throwing Death Disco there. Turns out the owners Swizzles and the owner of the Cajun Attic were friends so the Attic talked me up to Swizzles and I was invited in and started there in November of 2009 throwing a monthly Death Disco party and what a party it was! Good enough to get asked to do a regular night at the Cajun Attic and add a second Death Disco night at Swizzles! By the fall of 2010, Death Disco became Ottawa's first and only weekly, weekend goth/industrial night!

While developing the weekly club night, I also got into the promotion of live music. Intiailly, I started off with the plan to run a single event, Integration Festival Labour Day Weekend in 2008. That has bloomed beyond what I had ever expected. Since then I have worked with almost 60 acts (as of Fall 2012) and developed the reputation as one of the best promoters in the country for goth/industrial music. 50 plus shows and almost sixty bands in four years ain't too bad, in my opinion

All this has lead me to where I am today. That includes Vampire Freaks. I am here to find new music and meet cool people. If you have questions ask. If you have comments speak them. If you want to chat, say hello. Meeting new people is the point. Experiencing new music is always enjoyable. Turning Ottawa into one of the places to be if you dress in black is the goal. Living life is all that really matters.

Hey Dolston. I hate not know what's going on, so I try to be in the know as much as possible. Did you get the track I sent you? There's a track called Chaos on my player you should listen to as well.
