About Me

Goodness me time for an update! My name's Ben, I'm 21, I come from Spalding in Lincolnshire but at the moment live in Bath studying for an MSc in Molecular Microbiology at the University of Bath, after doing a BSc in Biology at Bath Spa University. In September I start a PhD at University of East Anglia and the John Innes Centre at Norwich Research Park. I'm moving towards becoming an Evolutionary Biologist of sorts. I'm not like anyone else, I love dark things, then again I also love comedy and humour. I love Biolgy, History, Wargames, Warhammer etc. I love Sci-Fi, Fantasy and I have a pretty good knack for suspending disbelief, but there is a clear sharp line on the floor - my first love is Science and understanding the world. I'm not a Goth, (although at one time I may have called myself that) Nerd or any other group. I'm a Ben... That's all there is to me really. I'm not fussy about people adding my msn or anything, I'm pretty easy going and always eager to make new friends so if you want to know me any better then talk, byes =].

Things I like: Biology, the good old Science of Life! Fantasy the most so: Wicked, Sweeney Todd, Dark Characters, Tim Burton, Dragons, Fantasy, Gothic stylings, Vampires, Horror and Fantasy books, movies, classic sci-fi like H.G. Wells War of the Worlds. Then things like wargaming, friends, musicals, comedies like Bleak Expectations. Cult Films like Rocky Horro and Repo! The Genetic Opera. People Like Dawkins, The Hitch (and the other "Horsemen"), my academic superiors and tutors are the sorts of people I look up to most and aspire to become. Oh and my pet Axolotl, Joanna.

Dislikes: Ignorance which halts the progress of humanity understanding the world - you can have your own opinions but you can't have your own facts! I don't like cruelty to animals and nature, hence the Biology and Wildlife interest, but equally I don't think going out on a soapbox and ranting till the cows come home is the right way to go about it because it gives people the wrong impression of environmentalists.

Music: What little I put up with...I'm a silence kind of person. Rather messed up, songs from a few genre's creeping in. Evanescence, Meatloaf, Bonnie Tyler and a bit of Celine Dion (yeah I like my ballads haha), Ataris, Lacuna Coil, Pink, Lordi, The Birthday Massacre, Zombie Girl, Within Temptation, Nightwish, Rosetta Stone, lots of things, the list goes on, It's a very mixed bag, I could not possibly remember and type them all down here. To be honest it shifts with the mood I'm in. I do like the 80's a lot as well.
