The Kentucky Vampire clan murders. On November 29th 1996 five teenagers were arrested at a hotel in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. A phone call from one of the teenagers, Charity Keesee, had led the police to them. The five teenagers were to be put on trial for the murders of Richard and Naomi Wendorf, a Florida couple, who were bludgeoned to death in their home on Thanksgiving night, 25th November. The teenagers, Rod Ferrell, Howard Scott Anderson, Dana Cooper, Charity Keesee and Heather Wendorf (Daughter of the slain couple), were part of a 30 strong vampire clan who drank blood and believed they could fly. They used to meet at an old abandoned hotel in the woods above Kentucky lake. This was known by many as The Vampire Hotel. Ferrell, 16, was the leader of the clan, who became interested in vampires through role playing but took it too far. The group had planned, in letters and phone calls, to run away and start a new life together as they were misunderstood for who they were. A police official from the area said that the group indulged in blood drinking, either from each other or small animals they had killed. Ferrell and Anderson, 17, had been arrested and were awaiting trial for a case of cruelty to animals. They had broken into an animal shelter and mutilated and killed two puppies (The legs of one had been ripped off and were never found). On November 26th, The day after the murders, Anderson was reported missing along with the family Buick. Ferrell, Cooper, 19, and Keesee,16, were also reported missing on November 22nd. The group had travelled to Florida to meet with Heather Wendorf and take her away from her parents. During the afternoon, on the day of the killings, Heather and Ferrell had taken part in a blood drinking ritual. Heather had believed this would make her one of their kind, and Ferrell would be her sire, or master. During the time in the cemetery, where the ritual was performed, Ferrell and Heather had discussed their plans for running away, and Ferrell had mentioned killing her parents. Heather told him to leave them be, and not to harm them. On November 26th the Wendorfs bodies were found by their older daughter, Jennifer, who also found that Heather and the family Ford was missing. The police became concerned for Heathers safety as they believed she may have been kidnapped by the murderer or murderers. It was only when Keesee had phoned her parents, saying she was scared, that the teens were captured. Heather was found to be a willing passenger with the group and so was placed under suspicion of aiding the murders and possibly masterminding them too. The group were extradited to Florida and, although most were still minors, they were tried as adults for their crimes. Brad King, the prosecutor, said he would not be seeking the death sentence for Cooper and Keesee but would for Ferrell and Anderson. Heather was dropped from suspicion when it was established that she had joined the group to run away, and knew nothing of her parents murders until the journey had begun. Ferrell pleaded guilty to the murders in February 1998, he cried as he did so. He was sentenced to death. His mother, Sondra Gibson, cried as he plead guilty but later claimed, outside the court, that “We live forever”. As far as I know here is the current status of the teens. Ferrell was charged with 2 counts of 1st degree murder, 1 count of armed robbery and 1 count of burglary with a weapon. He is awaiting death on death row. Anderson was charged with 2 counts of 1st degree murder, 1 count of armed robbery and 1 count of burglary with a weapon. He is serving a life sentence. Cooper was charged with 2 counts of 3rd degree murder, 1 count of armed robbery and 1 count of burglary with a weapon. She is serving her sentence and will be up for release on 26th May 2014. Keesee was charged with 2 counts of 3rd degree murder, 1 count of armed robbery and 1 count of burglary with a weapon. Keesee is serving her sentence and will be due for release on 16th June 2007. Heather Wendorf was not charged as she was found to not be involved in the murders or the planning of them. Layout made by on Skem9.com
